Roxas City celebrates her 58th charter day on May 12
The Roxas City bandstand as well as the city hall were jampacked of different crowd yesterday as the city government celebrated her 58th charter anniversary. Inside the city hall, there were lots of women who can be easily identified as members of BHW or Barangay Health workers because they all wore uniform blue t-shirts with BHW at the back. They seemed are all restless as they wait for the host to start.
Meanwhile, while these BHW’s are painstakingly waiting inside the city hall, there was an ongoing program outside on the Roxas City bandstand. The City Officials were present as they commemorate the 58th anniversary of the city.
There were traffic jams as the route near the city bandstand was closed for the program.
On the opposite side of the area is the Dinggoy Roxas Civic center and the young people have queued as they hold their folders which obviously contained pertinent documents for job hunting as part of the city’s lined-up program for the celebration.
For the information, Capiz became a chartered city on May 12, 1951 through House Bill 1528 sponsored by Ramon Acuña Arnaldo, the representative of the First District of Capiz. It was approved by President Elpidio Quirino on April 11, 1951 as Republic Act 608. Consequently, the town was named Roxas City after her greatest son, President Manuel Acuña Roxas, the last president of the Commonwealth and the first president of the Philippine Republic.
